Introducing the APO Choir
The Aldworth Philharmonic Choir was first established for the October 2007 Concert, at which Haydn's Nelson Mass was performed with great success. We now aim to perform in at least one concert a year and to do that to the highest standard we can. The repertoire in subsequent seasons has included music by Elgar, Mozart, Vivaldi and the choir's director, Jeremy Rawson.
In the 2011/2012 season, the choir will be performing three times. In January we are contributing to the Sumer Is Icumen In variations and in March we will sing a Stabat Mater by Schubert. But the main event for the choir this season will be in June, being part of the conclusion of APO’s Beethoven symphony cycle with a performance of his monumental 9th (Choral) Symphony.
Membership is open and is free. There are no auditions, but we do ask that members are reasonably experienced singers who are able to read music to a level which will enable them to learn a part reasonably quickly. Vacancies in the four voice parts depend on the balance of the membership for each concert. This is set by members registering to sing in a concert, so it is always possible that vacancies will exist in any part.
Rehearsals are generally held on Sunday afternoons at Blue Coat School, Sonning, during the six weeks leading up to a concert. Sometimes earlier rehearsals will also be held to learn notes.
If you would like to join the APO Choir, please complete the Contact Us form including details of the voice part you wish to sing, and previous experience.
